I know I'm not the only reader who saw that gorgeous cover and immediately felt NEED. I mean, look at it. Seriously, take a moment, and just LOOK at it.

*sigh*

Anyway, the book itself--every bit as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. I can hardly believe this was Margaret Rogerson's debut novel, the writing was just so stunningly lovely. The story as well was completely engaging. When I stepped back and looked at it from a distance, I was surprised to realize that there wasn't actually a great deal of complicated plot, per se. It was a simple sort of story, but . . . that was a smart choice on the author's part, because her world was complex, intricate, alluring. By keeping a simpler focus for the story itself, she was able to more clearly feature everything else. I was enchanted!

And let me just say--I'm reading all Fae books this month, and so far Rogerson's take on the Fae is my favorite. It is completely creepily terrifying. She really plays with the concept of glamours in a way that goes beyond what everyone else is doing. She's not unlike Holly Black in her approach, but she takes it a step or two further. Deliciously eerie!

I will say, as other reviewers have before me, there is a strong thread of insta-love going on in this book. And since the entire plot hinges on the love story between the two main leads (seriously, their love IS the story), having it be an insta-love connection made it a little hard to believe in places.

But I enjoyed everything else about the story so much, I was happy to kinda just squint and ignore any of those bits. Just be prepared if you don't like insta-love romances . . . and know that, in this reader's opinion at least, the rest of the book makes it all worth while.

Now I'll be watching for any news of another Margaret Rogerson book, because I am definitely a fan!

That is my fourth read for my Month of Fae Revels. I have one more planned, and two more that I may slip in, depending on how my reading time goes in the next two weeks. And don't forget--there's a big GIVEAWAY coming at the end of the month! It's exclusively for my mailing list subscribers, so sign up if you haven't already.
