Finally getting back to book reviews with this particularly lovely story. And I can honestly say I have NEVER read anything quite like My Lady Jane.

Um . . . basically everything?

I am a bit of an English History nerd (my mother used to write historical romance novels set in England, so I picked up some things as a kid), so I was familiar with the story of Lady Jane Gray before picking up this book. Which is why, when I heard this was not only a fantasy but also a comedy, my reaction was, “Say whaaaat?”

But yeah. This is a seriously funny, funny book. The dialogue. The inner monologues. The inserted viewpoint of the three narrators. The whole thing—hilarious!

Plus the dynamic between Jane and Gifford is utterly adorable. Their verbal sparring is some of the best I’ve ever seen, and there were some amazing “JUST KISS ALREADY!!!” scenes that my romantic heart thoroughly enjoyed.

Also, this is a fantasy, so there is magic. Which definitely shakes up how the whole historical story plays out and . . . I don’t want to give anything away, but this was just a delightful book, you guys.

Well, if I’m honest . . . the story kind of wandered for a while after the middle climax. (That whole bit with the GWB? Really? I just don’t see how it added anything.) I found myself getting a little bit impatient, ready for the climax and resolution to come ON already. It felt as though the authors HAD to make a certain word count, so they padded the story unnecessarily.

But you know what? I still loved the book. Seriously loved it. In fact . . .

I loved it so much that I am giving away a paperback copy to one lucky winner! If you would like an opportunity to win, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
